Coca-Cola launches its latest weird soda flavor in the metaverse

GamesBeat Summit 2022 returns with its biggest event for gaming leaders on April 26-28. Reserve your spot here!

Coca-Cola announced a new flavor from its Coca-Cola Creations division, apparently inspired by gaming. I say that because it’s called “Zero Sugar Byte” and it launched in the metaverse first – specifically Fortnite – before coming in physical form in May.

The vending machine has teamed up with gaming organization PWR on the creation of Pixel Point, a custom island built in Fortnite Creative. Those who enter Pixel Point can participate in mini-games themed around the soda brand. Coca-Cola emphasizes that this was a creative build with no official sponsorship from Epic or Fortnite.

None of this tells us what the soda actually tastes like, not that I think it matters. The company describes it as “the taste of pixels”. Oana Vlad, senior director of Coca-Cola’s global strategy, said in a statement: “For our second expression of Coca-Cola Creations, we wanted to create an innovative flavor inspired by the playfulness of pixels, rooted in the experiences that gaming enables. makes .”

The soda itself will launch in physical, palatable form in the US on May 2.
