About the Position:
The College of Humanities and Social Sciences is committed to educating students to be culturally, globally, socially, historically, and environmentally astute, civically responsible alumni able to navigate an increasingly complex and interconnected world. We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as a Graphic Designer I in the Dean’s Office. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

Under the lead guidance of the Senior Graphic Designer III, the Graphic Designer I is responsible for the design, creation, and promotion of materials for the college. Responsible for the coordination of related media, strategic communications, and printed materials, including posters, flyers, newsletters, and web-based media, electronic monitors, banners, and web pages that have a significant impact on the success of the college. The Graphic Designer I also assists college clients in developing communication programs and materials that meet their communication and marketing needs, ensuring that communication materials adhere to CSUF style and branding guidelines and further the client’s goals. The Graphic Designer I keeps abreast of new technologies and software in print and electronic design. Assists with communicating college news and information via social media. The Graphic Designer I also processes photographs and videos for departments events. Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, or a related field or the equivalent technical experience and/or relevant coursework. Foundational knowledge of the principles and techniques of artistic and graphic design, as well as demonstrated design and artistic skills. Possession of strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to utilize and remain current with applicable computer software packages and systems. Working knowledge of the principles of artistic and graphic design and illustration including the ability to design, layout, and prepare finished artwork to develop a visual products. Working knowledge of applicable graphic, design, and desktop publishing software packages, as well as the ability to effectively use them to create visual material. General knowledge of the principles of print design, typeface, color, layout, and production techniques. Working knowledge of the use of color, tone, shading, harmony, and perspective drawing. General knowledge of systems, techniques, and processes used in website design, photography, printmaking, and other applicable media. Demonstrated understanding of various communication vehicles and methods. Basic knowledge of copyright laws related to creative properties. Demonstrated ability to understand communication goals.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
