This position:
Creates, designs, and develops visually impactful and engaging material from often complex information
Designs in various media ranging from print to web, with particular expertise in print design and production
Works independently with significant creativity and under general supervision
Has potential for a hybrid work schedule

Essential Functions
Maintains brand and design standards and best practices, leverages new media and modern best practices to provide fresh approaches to projects. Conceptualizes, designs, and produces a variety of communication and marketing materials that inspires and engages target audiences and reach project goals. Produces materials that range from logo development, brochures, infographics, event displays, signage, websites, social web pages, presentations, and videos. Works closely with the internal departments to support and produce their needs and the needs of their clients. (40%)

Develops and designs artwork and performs quality-control proofing. Revises design until acceptable results are obtained. Selects photographs for print processing. Plans layouts and writes printing specifications, including paper stock, size, and face of type, binding systems, and multi-color reproductions. Assists with the planning, organizing, and implementing of promotional programs or campaigns. Manipulates and formats photographic images in digital formats for electronic and/or web-based documents and applications. Keeps informed of industry trends, best practices, comparative and competitive reviews, and evolving technologies. (30%)

Consults with internal and external customers on project specifications, considering budget and end-use. Obtains printing cost estimates. Enters project specification orders into print management software. Processes address verification to vendors and prepare for variable data printing. Performs special administrative projects as assigned. Works closely with production staff and outside vendors to assure the quality of the final product. Provides excellent project management and client services in creating graphic materials and services for the City’s 13 departments and the Mayor’s office with a focus on the end-user. Provides timely and proactive deliverables and updates. Maintains print, video, and photography relationships and quotes to produce creative materials on time and within budget. (30%)

Requirements
Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, Commercial Art or a related field
Three years of graphic design experience with a high level of proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite including Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft. PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel
Or an equivalent combination of education and or experience

Knowledge/Ability
Proven experience in designing for traditional (print) and non-traditional forms (digital, events, and experiential) of media to connect with audiences
Take complex ideas and distill them into meaningful visual communications
Highly organized, able to self-manage a heavy volume of assignments with various deadlines and multiple internal clients
Knowledge of branding best practices
Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills, positive energy with a get-it-done-right attitude
Flexibility to adjust to change, personalities, and shifting priorities at a moment’s notice demands from the organization it supports
Willingness to help complete the work of the team as a whole
Composed and professional in stressful situations, ranging from interpersonal conflict to emergency situations
Displays an attitude of cooperation and can work harmoniously with all levels of city employees and community members

Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
Five years of graphic and print design experience with a high level of proficiency in design software
Knowledge of the web industry and web programming
Familiarity with content-management software, WordPress, HTML, CSS, PHP, and other web-related concepts
Two years of experience with Adobe Creative Suite software
Knowledge of imposition software such as Imposition Wizard

Licensing And Other Requirements
Valid state-issued driver’s license
