The Graphic Designer produces visual communications that inspire, inform, and persuade key audiences for Carleton. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), exempt, benefit eligible, Grade: 10 position.Carleton College is a AA/EEO employer. Create and produce designs for a wide variety of projects in both print and digital media, including but not limited to programs, brochures, invitations, posters, booklets, ads, infographics, magazine layouts, email newsletters, wireframes and website design mockups, social media assets, iconography, presentations, banners, and event signage.2. Meet with academic and administrative partners to understand challenges, objectives, and strategies for each project, creating design concepts to meet those needs, and engage internal and external audiences-including prospective students and their families, current students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, and other audiences as defined by our clients.3. Adhere to established brand guidelines and visual identities while still pushing creative boundaries.4. Organize files and make revisions with a high attention to detail. Self-review materials for quality control.5. Stay abreast of current and innovative design trends, tools, and media in related areas; articulate trends to appropriate audiences; seek and participate in training to enhance or develop new skills.6. Maintain electronic archive of project assets, icon library, and font library.7. Assist creative team members in hiring, supervising, and mentoring student designers.8. Identify, hire, and direct the work of freelance illustrators and photographers.9. Perform other related duties as assigned.Open to remote/flexible work options in accordance with the Carleton Flexwork Policy.Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree in art, graphic design, or related field, plus three years of professional experience in graphic design.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesUnderstanding of contemporary design principlesKnowledge of typography, layout, and colorExpert skill level using Adobe Creative Suite and other softwareKnowledge of responsive design, wireframing, user experience, and associated web best practicesAbility to: o Find, select, and effectively crop quality photography that successfully tells Carleton’s story and illustrates big ideaso Optimize artwork for various digital media, ensuring that final product meets platform specificationso Produce outstanding work on time and within budget that meets client objectives and college standardso Create within the print media space (print specifications, file prep, proofing, and press checks)o Be resourcefulo Work independentlyo Prioritize projectso Communicate effectively and collaborate closely with colleagues and clientso Solve problemso Maintain a positive attitudeo Adapt to changing circumstances and requirementso Seek, understand, and incorporate feedback on design work from management and stakeholdersSpecial Instructions to ApplicantsA complete application includes: completing the online application, attaching a cover letter and resume embedding a link to your electronic portfolio.As per the Carleton Upward Mobility Program, priority consideration for internal applications will be given to those who apply by the end of day Monday, March 7, 2022.
