Job Description : | The New York City Campaign Finance Board (CFB), a nonpartisan, independent agency that enhances the role of New York City residents in elections, seeks a Graphic Designer that can create compelling and engaging visuals for digital and print media. The ideal candidate will be a conceptual thinker who is passionate about inclusive design, and adept at distilling complex information into accessible and easy-to-understand graphics. The position will report to the Art Director and collaborate with colleagues across the Public Affairs division to create branded materials that help to amplify our voter education and outreach efforts.Responsibilities: Assist in the development and creation of informational and marketing materials within digital and print platforms.Design compelling creatives that are visually and tonally consistent across all media, utilizing agency brand guidelines and assets to drive brand awareness and trust.Work closely with colleagues to develop an understanding of target audiences to produce impactful materials that resonate with diverse backgrounds and perspectives while creating a cohesive experience across all agency platforms.Collaborate with Content and Policy & Research teams to create data visualizations and infographics that communicate complex concepts with clarity and simplicity.Assist in production of citywide Voter Guide, including preparing candidate photos and other artwork and reviewing drafts and proofs from vendors.Support review and approval process and integrate feedback and edits to ensure that final materials are accurate and complete.Research relevant artwork and typefaces for integration into designs.Reviews specs for each project to ensure accurate file set-up and export.Essential Skills: Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite and other standard industry software and experienced in pre-flight and print production.Creative and flexible problem solver with ability to process complex ideas and data points into relatable visual communications.Sharp design and typography skills, with a keen eye toward detail and visual hierarchy.Awareness of diverse cultures, perspectives, and backgrounds, and how elements of each can affect the effectiveness and understanding of a designed piece.Knowledgeable about inclusive and accessible design, or curious and willing to learn about best practices quickly on the job.Excellent verbal communicator who can collaborate with team members and stakeholders, talking through designs from conception to execution.Strong attention to detail with ability to proofread and correct own work for accuracy and legibility.Can work independently, prioritizing and managing workload to meet deadlines, anticipating challenges and problems, and proactively asking for help as needed to deliver projects on time.Qualifications: Please Note: Qualified applicants will be asked to submit a design portfolio for their resumes to be considered. Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college/university, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.3+ years of design experience; experience in marketing/advertising, public relations, media, journalism, politics, government, advocacy, or a related field preferred.Portfolio of work that showcases sharp design and analytical skills.Experience creating content for digital and print platforms.Willingness to occasionally be available outside of regular work hours to support breaking news, election dates, or other time-sensitive needs.Familiarity with motion graphics, and/or previous experience in video creation and editing a plus.Photography knowledge and experience a plus.As of August 2, 2021, all new hires must be vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus, unless they have been granted a reasonable accommodation for religion or disability.
