We are a cutting-edge, well-funded organization, composed of researchers, communicators, international developers, partnership experts and more, all dedicated to building the ecosystem for charter cities.Role SummaryThe Graphic Designer will work with the Communications Team to execute the visual aspects of a comprehensive communications strategy as outlined by the Head of Communications. This will include: graphic design (creation of logos, infographics, marketing collateral, social media posts, decks, presentations, and more); creation of brand standards and guidelines; desktop publishing (format, design and layout of books, papers, one-pagers etc.); and other activities that further the mission of the Charter Cities Institute. The organization and team are small but rapidly growing, so the Graphic Designer will need to be comfortable contributing to a wide variety of activities to advance our mission.Duties and Responsibilities * Media creation: Create social media posts, memes, infographics, logos and other items for use on existing and future CCI channels. * Brand building and collateral design: Help update a visible and identifiable brand for CCI and associated projects and organizations, including the development of a visual aesthetic that can be replicated across websites, social media, publications, newsletters, and more. * External communications: Design newsletters; work on public-facing communications projects (e.g., design and distribution of collateral including one-pagers, decks, reports, etc.); and generally “level up” all visual content we create and disseminate. * Creativity: Research design and product trends for current and future projects; study design briefs and conceptualize visuals based on requirements; schedule projects and deliver in a timely manner. * Organization: Build and maintain long-term graphic asset library and file management system, keeping stock images and files organized for easy access. * Collaboration: Work with Head of Communications and the Communications Team to produce final design, making necessary changes following feedback to ensure graphics are appealing and on-brand.Qualifications * Education: Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in a relevant subject preferred; design or other grad school training helpful. * Experience: At least 2 years of design experience including both business-focused and artistic design. Experience in international development, public policy, or academia is a plus. * Attitude and passion: An entrepreneurial attitude, willingness to independently identify solutions to new challenges, and intellectual curiosity are required. * Skills and knowledge: Attention to detail, technical skills, proficiency with necessary software (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, etc.), and excellent organization are required.Expectations and CultureThe Charter Cities Institute greatly values our team culture. While we are presently working remotely due to current Covid conditions, we recently moved into beautiful new offices in the heart of D.C., and plan to return to the office when it is safe to do so. This position can be hybrid (remote / office), but some in-office availability is required. We’re a small team, so we frequently socialize as well, with regular (but optional) lunches, after-work outings, and weekend activities. Our staff is intellectually curious and enjoys exploring a wide variety of topics, so candidates should feel comfortable bringing their whole selves to work.Position DetailsThis is initially a part-time salaried position (approximately 20 hours per week), with the possibility of full-time employment for the right candidate.
