| Job Description : | Design eye-catching pages for newspapers, magazines and special sections produced at the Aiken Standard. Gather some content as needed. Contribute design ideas and techniques to the team. Must work well under deadline pressure.RESPONSIBILITIES: · Daily page design, including 1A, news, sports, and feature pages· Design graphics and sales pieces as needed· Design special sections as well as weekly and monthly special sections· Help with commercial print jobs as needed· Work with team and pressmen to get sections out as needed on the press· Contributing story ideas and editorial ideas· Other tasks as assigned by managementRequirements, minimum education level, and experience: · Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, English, Communications or relevant subject or work experience preferred· One to two years of newspaper experience helpful· Previous copy desk and page design experience preferred· Must be willing to work some evenings, weekends and some holidaysKnowledge, Skills and Abilities: · Passion for and skilled at following the news – from world and national news to local events· Proficiency with Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator preferred· Ability to think critically and apply problem-solving skills on daily basis· Knowledge of the community of Aiken, S.C. and surrounding area a plus· Ability to prioritize workload and self-manage projects, handle multiple tasks and meet strict deadlines in a high pressure settingPhysical Requirement: Regularly required to sit for long periods of time; close eye work on computer screen; required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, bend and stoop; light to moderate lifting 15-30 pounds.The worker is frequently subject to inside environmental conditions, which provide protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.Job Type: Full-timePay: $10.00 – $12.00 per hourBenefits:401(k) matchingDental insuranceEmployee assistance programEmployee discountHealth insuranceHealth savings accountPaid time offReferral programVision insuranceSchedule:8 hour shiftEducation:Bachelor’s (Preferred)Experience:Graphic design: 1 year (Preferred)Adobe Creative Suite: 1 year (Preferred)Adobe InDesign: 1 year (Preferred)Work Location: One location |
