The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, a Pulitzer Prize-winning news organization and Western Pennsylvania’s largest newspaper, is currently seeking applicants for a page designer position to join our talented visuals team. The applicant is a person with superb visual and technical skills who can bring visual vibrancy to our news pages and digital platforms. The ability to create illustrations is a plus. The ideal candidate should have: A strong sense of how design influences readers’ ability to understand a story. A compelling design portfolio. A background that demonstrates the ability to recognize and advocate for excellent photography and graphics, and generate ideas for alternate story forms. Strong ability to manage parallel projects at once. An ability to collaborate with editors, reporters and developers. Must be motivated to advocate strongly for the user but be flexible enough to adjust plans as requirements change. Proficient in print and digital content management tools. Familiarity with common forms of social media story design and tools. An ability to quickly write accurate and compelling display type. Experience making quick mockups and prototypes to communicate forming designs to stakeholders. An eye for spotting stories and related visual assets that can be turned into immersive stories. Comfort using all forms of visual multimedia, including: video, audio, still images, data and illustration.
