Job Description : | The Hartford Business Journal, an award winning business media organization, is looking for an experienced print and digital graphic designer to join our team.The successful candidate will be a detail oriented, proactive and energized professional who enjoys a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. Good judgment and the ability to handle multiple priorities under weekly deadlines is key. Communicating and working collaboratively with the editorial, events and sales departments are also essential.In this role you will be responsible for the day to day operation of the production department. Responsibilities will cover the areas of publication design and production, print management, advertising management, creative services and digital production and design.Key detailed responsibilities may includeWork with the editor and editorial department to determine graphic elements and photo needs, design the cover and editorial pages of the publications.Design a page layout of each issue, supplements, inserts and ancillary productsManage workflow in order to meet press deadlines.Manage pre-press work and provide info for the press sheet, send final PDFs to printer.For the printed products, oversee quality control with the press and approve all expenses.Work with the sales team to set up ad deadlines and tech specifications for advertising.Provide customer service to advertisers who need help with the tech specifications.Check and troubleshoot ads received from clients.Load digital ads to the ad server for website and enews products.Monitor available web ad inventory.Build effective ads for clients, based on specifications provided by account managers.Design/build marketing materials, ads, forms, reprints and collateral materials used for sales and circulation promotion.Prepare images and content from print edition for online import.Design/adjust items for website pages as needed.RequirementsMinimum of 3-5 years of graphic design experienceUnderstanding of print and digital publishing, including importing editorial contentExperience designing print and online marketing and advertisingStrong organizational skills with experience managing multiple prioritiesFamiliarity with MacOS X, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and AcrobatAdditional experience with WordPress or other CMS platform, Advert Serve or other Ad server platform, Magazine Manager or other CRM platformPlease include a link to your portfolio with your application.This position requires some knowledge of print design. Compensation commensurate with experience.
