Working under the supervision of the Art Director, the Senior Graphic Designer will be responsible for the concept, creation, and execution of engaging and effective digital, interactive, print, and environmental marketing and branding in support of strategic enrollment, retention, alumni engagement/fundraising, brand awareness/reputation, and other institutional goals. This position will be integral to the Marketing & Communications office, collaborating directly with our creative, strategy, project management, and web teams as well as other campus partners and stakeholders.

The qualified candidate will be a strong communicator, able to take initiative as needed to achieve specific project goals, meet critical deadlines, and ensure that projects reflect the institution’s brand strategy and system. They will bring imagination and innovation to cross-functional project teams and lead the execution of strategically inspired ideas.

Principal Responsibilities:
Plan, conceptualize, and execute high-level design that fits within the framework of Suffolk’s overall visual identity and is appropriate to content and audience
Collaborate closely with Marketing & Communications team to understand and interpret communication needs, marketing goals, messaging points, and desired tone for various projects and reflect this guiding information in their design workProduce designs for a broad range of communication vehicles including brochures and other marketing collateral, direct mail, promotional and event materials, print and out-of-home advertisements, banner ads, email, web, and social media from concept to delivery, as well as appropriately maintain, organize, and archive project files
Develop mockups and prototypes for microsites, marketing landing pages, and interactive web elementsDevelop and design iconography systems, infographics, and brand/campaign elementsCollaborate with University Photographer to conceptualize and plan photo shoots as needed for specific projectsWork with vendors to coordinate cost estimates, distribute files, review proofs and oversee final quality control of projects
Present design concepts to university partners, communicating creative vision and process
Serve as a mentor for junior designers and/or student internsFollow trends in design, emerging technologies, and platforms; consider how/when to experiment and integrate these into specific deliverables and/or the visual brand
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, digital design, or related field8+ years of working experience in a professional design role
Expert proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and other visual design toolsExperience designing for the web; basic front-end development (HTML/CSS) and understanding of UX (User Experience), UI (User Interface), and accessibility principles and best practices a plusExperience preparing files and working with offset and digital print vendors
Experience with digital asset management systems, and online collaboration and project management softwareFamiliarity with the establishment and tracking of key performance indicators for creative workMeticulous attention to detail and accuracyExcellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present and articulate concepts and potential solutionsStrong project and time management skills; proven ability to prioritize multiple, complex projects in a fast-paced environmentDemonstrated success working cross-functionallyStrong portfolio demonstrating solid conceptual skills and knowledge of design principles
