Job Description : | Senior Graphic Designer of Lifestyles product Highlights for Children, a family media brand that has been nurturing children with excellent, wholesome, and innovative products for more than 75 years, reaches over two million children every month throughout the world. Our wide variety of “Fun with a Purpose” magazines, books and lifestyle products are dedicated to helping children become their best selves: creative, curious, caring, and confident. This position is currently remote due to COVID. On occasion we will need to meet in the Columbus OH office to review product in person for alignment. Those meetings will be pre-arranged with your manager. Position Summary: The Sr. Graphic Designer of lifestyles reports into the VP of Product Development. The person filling this role has the unique and exciting responsibility of increasing the scope of the iconic Highlights brand into new, innovative trend right lifestyles products. The person in this role will work on all elements of graphic design to bring these products to life. From product design, to branding, to packaging design Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Creates the graphic art that support and enhance the product designs while balancing the creative process Initiates the graphic design process from concepting through completing the vendor ready art files Understands and applies printing techniques and packaging construction techniques while maintaining the integrity of the brand aesthetic Has a big picture point of view outside of own categories Collaborates with cross functional partners using effective influence, negotiation alignment and execution skills Maintains keen knowledge of the competitive landscape Effectively problem solves for administrative and product issues Models creative behavior for the team and others Lead and maintain a vision for each season What you should show up ready to teach anyone on your first day: The creative graphic design process from start to completion How to effectively set up art files for vendor partners How to present a graphics package to the leadership team How to take a good idea and make it a great Highlights brand right idea Within your first month, you’ll: Share innovative trend research and design ideas and how to translate it to the Highlights brand strategy Develop the graphics and packaging for a seasonal range of lifestyles product Collaborate with the design team on establishing the Highlights art hand and aesthetic for the lifestyles products Basic understanding of our partners publishing editorial process and workflows and how to best collaborate together Within your first year, you’ll: Create the graphic brand handwriting for the new line of lifestyles products at Highlights Deliver the first Highlights lifestyles product range to our customers, learn from customer feedback and sales, and create go forward graphic branding and packaging strategies for the next round of lifestyles product. Hindsight processes and products, what worked, what didn’t and implement improvements for future seasons Education and Experience: Bachelors Degree in graphic design 7+ Years of graphic design experience in fashion apparel design, accessories, beauty, home goods, lifestyles product design or packaging Proficient in Adobe suite specifically illustrator & Photoshop Proficient in e-mail communication and calendar management |
