Kaser Focus: I’m your GamesBeat+

GamesBeat Summit 2022 returns with its biggest event for gaming leaders on April 26-28. Reserve your spot here!

I sat down to write this, all willing to talk a little more about Ghostwire: Tokyo and Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, and other games I’ve played this week. Then I noticed an email announcing that Rockstar is launching a new subscription service called GTA+. This paid service — it costs $5.99 per month — for this 10-year MMO is exclusive to next-gen consoles. It offers a range of extras for those willing to pay for it.

So in honor of Rockstar’s . † † initiative, I announce the launch of GamesBeat+. You don’t have to pay for it, and you really get nothing but the privilege of reading a little more of my mind every week. And it will still be called Kaser Focus, because this pun is the only reason my family name exists.

It’s been a bit of a mixed bag this week. The good news is that apparently we’re getting some great new games: CD Projekt Red is making a new Witcher. Illfonic has announced a new Ghostbusters 4v1 multiplayer title. There was other good news this week: Epic raised $50 million from Fortnite to donate to humanitarian aid in Ukraine. We launched some great games this week. It hasn’t been that bad.

But in the less good news, we’ve heard that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is being delayed. EA Sports PGA Tour was also postponed. Delays are never fun. The worst news for me is that a judge is apparently preparing to approve a settlement in Activision Blizzard’s sexual harassment charge. This would mean that the big company could pay out $18 million to fix their problems. This settlement could also undermine the Ministry of Fair Employment and Housing’s case, which is still ongoing. It will be disappointing if this whole endeavor ends with Activision Blizzard paying out loose change and nothing else.
