A very small town. We were on a cruise. It’s best to rent a bike or car from Avis to explore verses an excursion on a cruise ship. The eagle reserves are very close. There are three eagle reserves from 7-20 miles away with no admissions. Biking it makes sense. Bike rental are $49 for two hours and up. It cost 50 percent more for food , basic necessities and health care ! Crime is related to alcohol and bear breaking into cars and homes if the bears are hungry. Coming from Whitehorse, Canada is 250 miles by car. A ferry from Juneau cost $44 one way as a passenger. A vehicle would cost more. A nice place to visit, winters are harsh.

A well done and staff we d visitor center that also had free filtered water available and a seating area so you could take a lod off after walking Haines all day. Plenty of pamphlets, maps, guides, and literature to review and help plan your day out and about. Also had a helpful staff greeting people and ready to provide recommendations. Parking was ample, and there are public restrooms in a well maintained building right next door. Would definitely recommend other communities take a look for an example of how to do a welcome center.

We were on a cruise and didn't actually stop in the visitor center. We did do a nature excursion of the temperate rain forest. Our guide was a retired forest ranger and very knowledgeable about the area, the critters, the eagles, and definitely about the forest. It was a very nice excursion and we learned so much about the town of Haines, it's history, population, and surrounding forests and waters. Haines was a lovely little town with very nice people.

Nice stop the town really came out and ran shuttles from cruise ship dock on short notice. We have to change docks because of high winds and no room At Skagway docks. Thanks Haines,Great job. Walking around town

Michael, Kalani and Reba were awesome. I thoroughly enjoyed chatting with them. They were so knowledgeable. You could tell they love Haines. Haines may seem like a sleepy town and if you went there and felt like there was not much to do you did it wrong. Come back and talk to these fine folk to get it right and if you still don't discover something new take the fast ferry to Skagway.

Helpful staff. Ask them where popular hikes start! Haines is a beautiful place... if it's drizzling, don't let it scare you from seeing something wonderful!
