In the 1950s, computer scientist John McCarthy and his colleagues at Dartmouth College coined the term Artificial Intelligence. They envisioned that computers could be programmed to perform intellectual tasks like reasoning, problem-solving, and language processing, which are traditionally associated with human intelligence.
