Job Description : | Job Summary The Harvard Kennedy School’s (HKS) Office of Communications and Public Affairs (OCPA) has an immediate opening for a multi-disciplinary design lead to be part of our team to develop and implement compelling visual design solutions that build on our established brand strategy. Reporting to the Director of Design, this experienced designer will lead and execute digital and print design projects in collaboration with other design team members, digital, multimedia, and editorial partners. Projects include designing a range of multi-platform communications products for internal and external audiences. The successful candidate will join a team of communications specialists elevating ground-breaking research, expanding the reach of our teaching and learning, enhancing audience engagement, promoting fundraising and recruitment initiatives, and furthering the impact of HKS through various channels. Job-Specific Responsibilities Concept, develop, and deliver modern visual strategy solutions and thoughtful brand expressions across print and digital productsDemonstrate a deep understanding and interest in visual storytelling through the use of graphic design, art direction, photography, illustration, data visualization, and motion graphicsDevelop, present, and socialize innovative design solutions, supported by design rationale, brand and industry standards, and emerging design trendsApply understanding of key audiences to translate research, editorial, and data into layouts, prototypes, and graphics for rich digital and print engagementEstablish and evolve visual style guides by synthesizing visual strategies, design systems, and brand elementsEnsure and provide HKS brand stewardship, guidelines, and management • Lead design projects and initiatives in a multi-disciplinary environment of print, web, digital, and environmental design driven by curiosity and openness • Contribute to content creation in collaboration with writers, producers, and engagement in HKS community Manage time effectively and set stakeholder expectation while working on multiple projectsSupport accomplishing OCPA goals as defined by HKS priorities Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or certificate in graphic design and a minimum of 8 years of professional design experience in integrated, cross-channel marketing communications. Additional Qualifications and Skills Strong portfolio with excellence in design, branding systems, typography, art direction, digital (UX/UI, motion graphics), and identitySolid mastery of Adobe CC products (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, XD, After Effects), and experience with Microsoft suiteIntegrated design approach in digital experience, data visualization, email marketing, and social media platformsDemonstrated understanding of design principles that connect ideas, create concepts, and deliver effective communicationsAbility to facilitate project brainstorming, develop creative briefs, and lead project team to meet established goals.Knowledge of HTML and CSS. Prototyping and Drupal experience an asset.Understanding of user experience, web and accessibility standards, and social media platformsPhotography or illustration skills an assetHighly motivated and thrives in a multi-channel environment managing multi-project workplanExcitement and confidence to advocate effectively for brand standards and design principles throughout the organizationExcellent written and verbal communication skillsStrong interpersonal skills.
